The Museum of Salt Marsh leads you to discover the cultural heritage of the country of Guerande shaped with 2000 years of salt history. Its constituent founds that's make him one of the most ancients museums of ethnography in France. You will be welcomed by the salt carrier : "La Porteresse" made with bronze by the remarkable Jean Fréour.
Built on two levels, the museographic pole with 250 m² has got three showrooms and an audiovisual room. In he reception hall, a shop (bookshop, post cards and exclusive souvenirs).
A permanent exhibition : The permanent exhibitions of the Museum combine history and Memory to tell the technical and human adventure of saltern, from the beginning until today. She has got two supplementary sequences mixed with ethnographical collections, documentaries, decorative and fine arts.
At the first floor salt of Guerande, technic and history are explained saltworks functioning and paludiers salters'job, history of salt marsh from Gallic age till today, traditionnal use (salt meat and fishes...) trade and tax system. A range of salt samples coming from the whole world build up by friends of the Museum is exposed.
An audiovisual room where films about twenty minutes or so are projected on sea works, salt marsh of Guerande and birds of the "Pays-Blanc".
On the ground floor : ethnography of paludier salters community, reality and representations (at the end of the 19th century - beginning of the 20th century).
On the ground floor, red furniture collections, clothes on stage relate paludier salter's life in the 19th century.
Combined with ethnographic collections as 1887, some decorative and fine arts are gathered since 1984 : bouquets and figurines made with shellfish (19th century), seaside souvenirs (Dresden porcelain, earthenware from Quimper, Malicorne), collections of pictures from artists inspired by the country of salt marsh since the beginning of the 19th century (oeuvre of Le Camus-Duval, Mathurin Méheut, Lucien Jonas, Charles Toché, Alexis de Broca, Jorj Robin, Michel Colle...).

The Museum is closed on the 25th of december, the 1st of january, the 1st of may, the 1st of november and the 11th of november.
Exceptional closure for the service will be sticked up on the Salt Marsh Museum's doors
