LA BAULE JUMPING OF FRANCE : DERBY MEETING

The second most important show jumping event at the CSIO 5* of La Baule is the Derby Meeting. Exciting and novel, the Derby is a riders' favourite !

Extraordinary

One of the Derby's biggest attractions is its rarity. Only three such competitions exist worldwide : Hickstead (Great Britain), Hamburg (Germany) and La Baule (France).

A novelty

Even if the Derby Meeting is considered a show jumping event, the Derby is far from being like traditional show jumping competitions. The course is composed of natural fences similar to cross country ones however they are not as technical, nor as large as the onerous cross country fences.

The challenge

The rider and horse couple must confront an uneven 1,100 meter long course composed of 21 varied fences : traditional, natural, water, bank and drop jumps that range between 1.40 to 1.50 meters high. This represents 600 meters and 9 more jumps than a traditional Grand Prix course ! Endurance and physical ability are principal requirements to be able to rise to the winner's podium !
