LA BAULE : DERBY CADETS TENNIS

Since 1988, The Derby Cadets Tennis tournament has welcomed the best boys and girls in the world under 16. More than 100 different countries from all around the world have sent their best young champions to La Baule on the third week of June, and La Baule has become one of the places to be and probably the most important tournament organized for players under 16.

Every year, boys, girls and their coaches come to The Country Club Barriere Tennis Resort to try to be one of the most talented to play the Sunday finals under the eyes of 1200 spectators.

Until then, the tournament team has taken care of their accomodation and meals free of charge, thanks to the numerous sponsors of the competition, such as BT, BNP Paribas, Gaz de France and Groupe Lucien Barriere.

Just like in any other youth tournament, all spectators can watch matches for free and are welcome among the players around the courts, like the 300 kids coming on Wednesday to ask their first autographs to the future champions.

One of the favourite occupations of the spectators is to try to guess who, among the players will become one of the best professional ones in the world. Through the years, most of the famous players have come to La Baule :

Boys : Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Nowak Djokovic, Andy Roddick, David Nalbandian, David Ferrer, and numerous others, as the French players Richard Gasquet, Jo Wilfried Tsonga, Sebastien Grosjean, Gael Monfils...

Girls : Lindsay Davenport, Amelie Mauresmo, Maria Sharapova,... As a proof of the highest level of the Derby Cadets, only few of them finally won in La Baule !

The 20th anniversary of the tournament will take place this year, from June 14th until June 22nd . Once more, we hope that it will be sunny to welcome all the tennis world in La Baule, with matches of high level.

During all the tournament, the Country Club Barriere Tennis Club provides services such as bar, catering and a special welcome to everybody, whoever they are : players, coaches or only spectators.
